First payday from the Fundraising

BlogPost from 20th of July 2020

WHAT a week it has been! A whole week of sweat and tears from an amazing team who has impressed us so tremendously!

It was decided that a proper road will be build right outside of Babel. They will take 5 meters of our garden. We have known about this since we bought Babel, but it´s been more than a decade now with a lot of talking and no action. Until now.

Our guess is that they want to take advantage of the situation when the streets are quiet, and get on with the plans to improve the infrastructure of city now, before tourism starts to come back again. Proper roads are being build all over town now.

SO, we had to think all different scenarios, we even thought about moving Babel to another place. But we found out that we could rearrange the whole garden, think smart and find new alternative ways to take advantage of every meter that we have - and we found out that we will end up with almost as much space for our guests to get the same chilled out relaxing feeling as before. And we will make it even better. A fresh new start!

AND we have manpower. Because of the Fundraising we are able to pay our staff and Tuk Tuk drivers to work full time on this whole project.

And so they did. Monday till Saturday last week. We are so impressed. Every day from 8-4 with one hour lunch break (with vegetables sponsored by One Family at a Time). And they worked HARD.

First we tore down everything. Starting with the beautiful new sofa in our new lounge of the restaurant (cried a little). Everything had to be taken down, the Bamboo jungle entrance (that we planted on the sides in the back), all bungalows and lounges, the whole restaurant and the bar - EVERYTHING!

To save space we moved our huge water tank under the ground, and used all the sand dug up plus rocks from all lounges to rise the floor in the whole area.

Saturday when workday was over - it was FIRST PAYDAY! Most of the drivers has had absolutely NO income for almost 4 months. So it was such an amazing feeling to be able contribute.

And today was another rice donation day - for all staff and Tuk Tuk drivers and their families.

So… a huge THANX to you who donated!! Because of YOU we are able to give much needed salaries and rice donations in this difficult times. We are FOREVER grateful!
